General description Odysseia is an European travel database. It contains references to every country in Europe for different types of travellers. The information is provided in form of world wide web resources, to which the database has direct links to. The documents are selected by examing the information contents of each document. The database is designed for people who are planning a trip or who are otherwise interested in foreign countries. Each country has 1 - 3 links in database, altogether 69 links. Both official and unofficial pages are included. Unofficial documents are chosen when official are not available.

Odysseia is made by students of the course called "Database project " in the University of Tampere, Department of Information Studies. Odysseia is produced by a group specializing in web databases. The purpose of the course is that each group produces one database from the beginning to the end, including thesaurus. Members of the Odysseia-group are: Riku Henriksson, Tuula Järvinen, Heljä Kajo, Markku Lehikoinen, Leena Mäkiö, Mia Niskanen, Susanna Syrjäsuo and Mikko Vaasvainio.

The database is made by using TRIP-software and the web interface using TRIP-highway. It was made during the fall 1997 and the functioning of the pages was verified on the week 48. The location of the database is faculty´s UNIX-server kastanja.uta.fi, where TRIP also resides.
